The C.A.O.S. Spear and The Satanic Order’s Sigil

The C.A.O.S. Spear and The Satanic Order’s Sigil: An Esoteric, Chaos-Gnostic, and Alchemical-Philosophical Analysis
by Tommy Eriksson

The Satanic Order’s emblem constitutes a synthesis of several esoteric, initiatory, and symbol-philosophical traditions. The symbol is not merely a graphic identifier for the Order, but simultaneously functions as a concentrated iconographic map of its metaphysical and magical worldview. Within the sigil, elements from the Setian tradition, Western ceremonial magic, chaos gnosticism, Qliphothic symbolism, sex magic, planetary alchemy, and runic mysticism are brought together. The result is an emblem whose structure expresses an initiatory process in which the adept gradually breaks free from cosmic order, moral dualism, and metaphysical light in order instead to enter the creative darkness, the principle of chaos, and the path of antinomian self-deification.

The Satanic Order was originally established in 1996 and re-established in 2026, designated as Anno Antichrist XXVIII. The Order’s symbol itself is referred to as the C.A.O.S. Spear and constitutes the central visual representation of the Order’s metaphysics. At first glance, the emblem may appear to be a stylized pentagram pierced by a staff, but its components are in fact carriers of several layers of esoteric meaning.

The Broken Pentagram and the Chaos-Gnostic Principle

The foundation of the symbol consists of a broken chaos pentagram. Since antiquity, the traditional pentagram has functioned as a symbol of order, balance, and microcosmic harmony. Within Pythagorean philosophy, the pentagram represented the harmonious proportions of humanity and the mathematical perfection of cosmic order. Within later Hermetic and magical traditions, the pentagram came to symbolize humanity as microcosm, where the five points represent the elements and spirit.

In The Satanic Order’s emblem, however, this order is deliberately shattered. The two upper points of the pentagram are separated by the vertical staff, altering the symbol’s geometric structure. Where a conventional pentagram generates ten angles, eleven are instead created here.

Within several esoteric traditions, the number eleven has been regarded as a number of transcendence, dissolution, and chaos. In the Thelemic tradition, eleven was considered the number of magic and transgression, while within chaos gnosticism it symbolizes the breaking of cosmic order and the entry into pre-cosmic darkness. By breaking the symmetry of the pentagram, the stability that previously held the elements in balance is abolished. Chaos is released.

Within chaos-gnostic symbolism, this is also connected to the numerological mysticism surrounding 218, which is regarded as a numerical expression of the principle of chaos and anti-cosmic gnosis. The number appears within several modern Qliphothic and anti-cosmic traditions where it represents the return to the pre-cosmic primordial ground, that is, the form of existence preceding the order of creation. The broken pentagram therefore becomes a symbol of the dissolution of cosmic structure and humanity’s liberation from the limitations of ordered creation.

Each angle in the broken pentagram can furthermore be associated with specific Qliphothic forces or demonic intelligence principles. These function not merely as external entities but as archetypes for destructive, transformative, and initiatory forces within the adept’s own psyche. In this way, the symbol functions as a map of the Qliphothic initiatory process.

The Staff and the Setian Tradition

The central staff in the emblem is inspired by the staff held by the Egyptian god Set in iconographic depictions. Within Egyptian religion, Set is a complex deity associated with storms, deserts, violence, isolation, and cosmic disruption. At the same time, he also represents individuality, resistance, and the force that breaks stagnation.

In modern esoteric and Setian tradition, Set has often been interpreted as the principle of isolated intelligence — that is, the force through which the individual separates himself from the determinism of nature and the collective. Within this understanding, Set becomes not merely a destructive force, but also the principle that enables self-awareness and self-deification.

The staff thereby connects The Satanic Order’s symbol to the Setian magical tradition. It functions as the axis through which the force of chaos is channeled and simultaneously as the pillar that splits the order of the pentagram.

At the same time, the staff connects to the tradition of ceremonial magic through its resemblance to the so-called Phoenix Wand of the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn. Within the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn, this staff symbolized transformation, initiation, and the alchemical process of death and rebirth. The upper part of the staff was traditionally white and its lower part black, representing the dominance of light over matter and the sovereignty of the spiritual principle over darkness.

In The Satanic Order’s symbolism, these colors have been inverted. Here the top is black and the bottom white, expressing a radical reversal of the traditional Hermetic worldview. Darkness rules over light. The principles of chaos are liberated from the limitations of cosmic order, and the adept’s path becomes not an ascent toward divine light but a descent into creative darkness.

The Initiatory Path and the Planetary Levels

The C.A.O.S. Spear simultaneously functions as a symbolic representation of The Satanic Order’s initiatory system. The path begins at the very bottom of the staff and progressively moves upward through different levels of consciousness, alchemy, and magical work.

At the bottom is found the sphere of darkness and matter, where the adept confronts his most fundamental drives, desires, and instinctive forces. From there, a gradual progression occurs through planetary levels, which represent different states of consciousness and initiatory stages. These levels are deliberately concealed within the symbol and are progressively revealed to the member through the Order’s initiatory system; therefore, no colors are represented in the Order’s sigil.

Each planetary level is associated not only with rituals and theoretical studies but also with a specific alchemical work. This includes the creation of elixirs and other symbolic or practical processes whose purpose is to transform the adept’s psyche and existence in magical symbiosis with the planets.

Planetary alchemy is based on the older Hermetic conception that metals, planets, and states of consciousness correspond to one another. By working with these correspondences, a gradual transformation of the adept’s inner nature takes place.

The ultimate goal of this process is symbolized by the Philosopher’s Stone. Within traditional alchemy, the Philosopher’s Stone represents not merely physical transmutation but above all humanity’s spiritual and ontological transformation. In The Satanic Order’s context, this principle is reinterpreted through a dark initiatory philosophy in which the goal is not reunion with divine light but the complete integration of the principle of chaos and darkness into the being of the individual, but also through the texts of another French occult order, the creation of the physical alchemical stone.

The Set Head and the Dragon Claws

The upper part of the staff terminates in a Set head, which further reinforces the connection to the Setian tradition. Set functions here as the principle of intelligence that guides the adept away from cosmic order and into the path of isolated self-deification.

At the bottom, the staff instead terminates in two dragon claws. These refer to apocalyptic and demonological symbolism, above all the Great Beast 666 and the seven-headed dragon from the Book of Revelation. Within traditional Christian symbolism, the dragon represents chaos, revolt, and anti-cosmic force.

Within Satanic and antinomian esotericism, however, the dragon is often reinterpreted as a symbol of primordial power, primal instinct, and pre-cosmic energy. The dragon claws in the symbol therefore function as expressions of the forces that uphold the initiatory process from below — the dark primordial powers that the adept must integrate rather than deny.

The combination of the Set head and the dragon claws creates a vertical symbolism in which the staff functions as an axis between two forms of dark transcendence: intelligent isolation above and chaotic primordial force below.

The Sex-Magical Symbolism: Samael and Lilith

One of the emblem’s most central yet simultaneously most esoteric dimensions is its sex-magical symbolism. The staff not only divides the upper points of the pentagram but also penetrates its center. This may be interpreted as a symbolic representation of the sexual union between Samael and Lilith.

Within Jewish demonology and later Kabbalistic tradition, Samael is often portrayed as a destructive or Satanic principle, while Lilith represents the nocturnal, sexual, and rebellious feminine force. Within several Qliphothic and antinomian traditions, their union is regarded as a symbol of the creation of anti-cosmic force and liberated desire-energy.

The vertical staff here functions as a phallic principle, while the pentagram’s central structure represents the feminine receptive principle. Where the lower point of the staff reaches behind the pentagram’s lowest point, a shape furthermore emerges that strongly resembles Lilith’s sigil or a stylized female sex.

This is a deliberate sex-magical symbolism. Within sex-magical traditions, the sexual act is regarded as a method for liberating and transforming psychic energy. The sexual union between Samael and Lilith therefore symbolizes the union between destructive masculine force and dark feminine primordiality from which the demons could be born.

Within The Satanic Order’s symbolism, this union becomes a metaphor for the adept’s own alchemical transformation. Through integrating destructive and creative forces, a process occurs in which the individual transcends moral dualism and is returned to a state of primordial wholeness.

Runic Magic and Planetary Correspondences

The emblem also contains references to runic magic. The runes associated with each respective planetary level are integrated into the structure of the staff and represent specific energy principles and initiatory qualities.

The runes function as carriers of cosmic and psychic forces, and within modern esoteric runic mysticism the runes are often regarded as archetypes.

By linking runes to planetary levels, a synthesis is created between Norse esotericism and Western Hermetic alchemy. This reflects a broader tendency within modern occultism in which different symbolic systems are integrated into a coherent initiatory framework.

This synthesis also reinforces the Order’s central idea that magical transformation does not occur through dogmatic adherence to a single tradition, but through the active integration of multiple symbolic and initiatory systems.

Chaos, Inversion, and the Antinomian Path

A recurring theme throughout the symbolism of the C.A.O.S. Spear is inversion. Traditional symbols are reinterpreted and turned against their original meanings. The harmony of the pentagram is shattered. The colors of the Phoenix Wand are inverted. Light is subordinated to darkness. Traditional alchemy’s ascent toward divine light is replaced by a descent into the principle of chaos and darkness.

This inversion, however, is not merely nihilistic or destructive. Within antinomian esotericism, the breaking of established cosmic and moral orders is regarded as a method of self-transformation. By breaking limiting structures, the possibility of individual transcendence emerges.

Chaos is understood here not as random disorder but as the primordiality from which all forms arise. The broken pentagram therefore symbolizes not merely destruction but also liberation from stagnation and metaphysical determinism.

The C.A.O.S. Spear thus functions as an initiatory map of the adept’s path from order to chaos, from collective identity to isolated self-awareness, and from dualistic morality to a form of antinomian self-deification.

The Satanic Order’s emblem is a complex synthesis of several esoteric traditions and philosophical currents of thought. Through the broken pentagram, the principle of the chaos-gnostic revolt and the dissolution of cosmic order are expressed. Through the Set staff, the connection to the Setian magical tradition and the path of isolated intelligence is established. Through planetary alchemy and runic magic, an initiatory system emerges whose goal is the adept’s gradual transformation.

At the same time, the entire symbol is permeated by sex-magical and Qliphothic symbolism in which the union between Samael and Lilith represents the liberation of primordial force and the integration of the principle of darkness into the essence of humanity.

The C.A.O.S. Spear is thereby not merely an Order sigil but a concentrated metaphysical model of chaos, transformation, inversion, and self-deification. It expresses an initiatory philosophy in which humanity, through darkness, revolt, and magical discipline, seeks to transcend the order of creation and become the bearer of the principle of living chaos.
